For more than a year, we’ve been focused on a single issue: the delivery of health care during a pandemic. More than ever, we appreciate that the health care system is about people. And the people of Sinai Health — the front-line employees, the physicians, nurses, caregivers and those in the myriad functions supporting our system — have demonstrated unrelenting, exceptional care.
From providing leadership in the provincial and regional health care system response, to accepting patients from other acute-care hospitals hard hit by the pandemic, to day-to-day acts of kindness, Sinai Health has shown extraordinary resilience and compassion.
Here are a few of the many examples of how Sinai Health made a difference in a most unprecedented year.

Powered by donors and launched in 2020 within the first few weeks of the pandemic, the “Sinai CEO Fund” has supported our front-line heroes, helped patients stay connected to their loved ones and seed-funded research to improve COVID-19 testing and treatment.
“We have donors’ fast action to thank for its success,” says Louis de Melo, CEO of Sinai Health Foundation.
Community partners also pitched in to show their support for front-line staff.
In the early days of the pandemic, Robert Bielak, president of St. Helen’s Meat Packers Limited, donated food and helped prepare meals to be delivered to front-line teams at Mount Sinai Hospital and Bridgepoint Active Healthcare.
Rob Kumer, a Sinai Health board member and Chief Investment Officer of Kingsett Capital, a real estate investment firm that owns the Courtyard Marriott, helped establish the “Rest Safe” program. Rest Safe tapped into underutilized rooms at the Courtyard Marriott and provided them free to front-line workers who needed to avoid travel and protect their families while working through the first wave of the pandemic.
